Paseo del Sol provides 24/7 security, it features the largest, 95 m (1022 ft) long pool, gardens, a tennis court, gym  (currently being refurbished), WLAN at the lobby and the pool area, elevators and a parking spot.  Guests can have access to the Reef Club beach club across the street (4 people) with the membership card.  Reef Club’s rules apply to grant access to the club.

Other attractions within Playacar include the bird aviary and some small Mayan ruins – all within walking distance.

The famous 5a Avenida with its wide variety of shops and restaurants is just 1.6 Km away from Paseo del Sol - 15 to 20 minutes by foot.

There are several waterparks with underground rivers or holes, called cenotes, in the area. The water in the cenotes is much cooler than the Caribbean sea. For those more adventurous, the Crococun zoo would be an alternative.

When traveling with small children, Xel-Ha is the most appropiate park, as it has a playground with small water-slides and swings for kids. For kids from 8 year old and above and teenagers, Xplor is great fun.

At Akumal you can swim with turtles all year long. During the breeding season from May to August you will be able to see more turtles.

You may also book a tour to see the whaleshark from May until August, which is the biggest shark in the world.

Underground caves are another attraction in the Riviera Maya, for example in Rio Secreto.

The Palancar Reef by Cozumel is the second largest in the World after the Great Barrier Reef. A must see for scuba divers!

For those of you interested in the Maya culture, there are three archaeological sites that can comfortably be visited from Playa del Carmen on a day tour. The nearest one is Tulum (50 minutes by car), which has spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea from the Cliff. The world famous Chichen Itza (named UNESCO World Heritage and one of the 7 new wonders of the world) is just 2.25 hours by car. If you would like to climb a pyramid, you can still do this at Coba, which is 1.5 hours by car.
